As everyone knows, 2020 has been a tough year for retirement homes, and our residents and staff are not exempt. Whether it’s been cleaning, screening, or delivering meals to keep everyone safe, we have entered into a new normal. Any visits with families and friends have now been solely virtual, but even with all these challenges, I am happy to report our COVID free status!
I am excited to share that the highly-anticipated vaccine has arrived at our doors. CVS Pharmacy has been working with Daystar to vaccinate every one of our staff and residents with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.
It is with gratitude and optimism that I announce that our clinics are almost fully complete, and am overwhelmed at the dedication to success I have witnessed community-wide. Whether coordinating the clinics, diligently wearing standard PPE, or meticulously cleaning all day every day, we as a community have been doing our part to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
Partnering with CVS Pharmacy has been nothing short of great! Their staff is extremely knowledgeable in answering any questions or concerns, and they have been helpful and efficient in their dedication to passing out this vaccine to each person on our campus. Due to specific resident circumstances, we even had one pharmacist complete a few injections in residents' personal dwellings.
When Bob, our 101-year-old resident (🎉!!!) got his vaccination, he expressed a sigh of relief as he sat down to get his shot; “I’ve been waiting for this day since this whole thing started,” he stated.
Even though we are now done with our current vaccine clinics, we are just starting to create a process that anticipates ongoing vaccine needs as new staff and residents arrive. As the numbers for vaccinations continue to grow across the country, we too, are breathing a sigh of relief - just like Bob.
Despite having received vaccinations, we plan to remain diligent with masking, social distancing, and screening. Through our continued diligence, we cannot help but feel that this is the start of the sun coming up over the horizon, and we cannot wait until we can hug our families, friends, and enjoy regular in-person visits.
I'd like to extend a huge thanks from all of us at Daystar to CVS Pharmacy, and another thank you from me, personally, to our staff and residents for making this possible. I am proud of all of everyone who made this vaccination process and our COVID-free status at Daystar possible.
