You know how it takes a village to raise a child? Well, it seems to us that no matter who you are, it helps to have a village that has your back.
That thought came to me recently when I was looking over some questions we posed to a few Daystar Retirement Village staff members, and the answers they supplied.
We only had time to query a handful of people and their length of employment here at Daystar varied from three months to three years. The nursing assistants were all busy helping residents (not surprisingly) but we were able to sneak in a quick conversation with one nurse, an activities coordinator, a bus driver and a receptionist.
Their unanimous answer for why they enjoy working here was…the residents. To a person, they said they enjoy talking with residents, assisting with their needs, getting to know them. One employee said she loves seeing residents smile, and their smiles never fail to make her smile as well.
When we asked if they could name a particular person or describe an experience that made an impression on them, most said there were just too many. “Every senior I care for affects me in some way,” one employee said. “I love learning of their experiences.”
“I love the residents’ wisdom, stories and sense of humor!” another employee wrote.
When we asked if they had a role model, one employee mentioned Walt Disney “because no matter how old he was, he was still a kid at heart,” but another employee mentioned our own Mrs. Novotny. At 101 years young, she’s still active, engaged and a pleasure to be around.
That’s just a small sampling of how some of our employees feel about working at Daystar Retirement Community. We hope to bring you more stories in the months to come. We have a wonderful community here at Daystar and that’s because we are fortunate to have wonderful residents and caring staff.
Father’s Day is this Sunday and all of us at Daystar Retirement Village want to send out special Father’s Day greetings to all of the fathers and father-figures in our community. We are grateful for your wisdom, experience, strength and kindness. Happy Father’s Day.
